Does 'depreciation periods remaining' field do anything or just for info?

I am having difficulty establishing the number of periods remaining for fixed assets being imported to a new FA module.

How important is this field, is it used in any calculations (doesn't seem to be)?  Would it be a problem if I enter a number too high or too low? We are using Straight line dep'n.

The potential issues as I see them are:

1. AX will get run out of periods remaining whilst having a NBV still on the asset, then what?
2. AX will depreciate the asset down to zero but still have some periods remaining on the clock.

Does anyone know if either of these scenarios are a problem?
